Antenatal Clinic
Antenatal care is organised by a local team of community midwives (Aber Team -
telephone Swansea 522999). Antenatal patients are seen by the midwives on Thursday
afternoons by appointment. They also carry out assessments at patients' homes.
One of the doctors will normally examine new patients at their first antenatal
attendance. It is recommended that ladies take folic acid tablets (400mcg daily)
from prior to conception until the sixteenth week of pregnancy. This reduces the
risk of spina bifida. The tablets are available over the counter in the pharmacy
or can be provided on prescription.
Postnatal Care
When the baby is born, please deliver your hospital discharge letter promptly
to the surgery. Six weeks after the baby is born, please book an appointment for a
full postnatal examination with one of the doctors at the surgery. When booking
the appointment please tell the receptionist that you need an appointment for
a postnatal examination. If you are due for a smear this will be carried out 12
weeks after the birth.
Asthma Clinic

peak flow rate recording and inhaler technique checks.

A full contraceptive service is available. Please make a normal surgery appointment
with the doctor of your choice.
Cervical Cytology (Smears)

to screen for cancer of the cervix every three years unless they have had a hysterectomy.

Practice Nurse Services
Our nurses are available to carry out ECGs, dressings and ear syringing. They can also give advice about holiday vaccinations and provide simple health advice and first aid.
The practice nurses are involved in several weekly clinics and administer the free influenza vaccination which is available every autumn to patients at risk. This includes people who are elderly, or suffer from heart, lung, kidney disease or diabetes.
